Forest to Home’s solid timber furniture is inspired by our rich legacy of craftmanship.
It’s fitting that the inspiration behind Forest to Home came from beautiful Wiltshire parkland. In fact, our beginnings are about as far from the boardroom as you can get. Our founders, Sam Baker and William Hibbert, bonded over their love of craftmanship, as they worked together on the restoration of a 17th Century estate. The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, Will and Sam’s vast experience – renovating ancient stone barns and heritage buildings across The Cotswolds – inspires our much-loved design aesthetic. We firmly believe that our solid timber tables, beds, desks and wardrobes have more soul than mass-produced furniture. Every piece is designed and made-to-order in our Wiltshire workshop, using British oak, ash and walnut. And here, perched on the edge of The Cotswolds, we are lucky enough to find design inspiration at every turn.
Take our Cruck range, which is inspired by Lacock’s timber-framed cottages and Bradford-on-Avon’s spectacular, 14th Century tithe barn. Here a series of magnificent timbers gracefully stretch and curve for over 50 metres, buoying up thousands of limestone tiles above.
Like these impressive heritage buildings, our solid timber furniture is beautifully handcrafted and built to stand the test of time. Of course, it oozes character too. Our Cruck Bed is sculpted from a combination of carefully sawn and smoothly-sanded oak, making it tactile and textured. With its softly curving headboard and arched detail at the foot, it seamlessly combines a rustic aesthetic with a modern twist.
Likewise, our Country Dining Table celebrates a classic design, while bringing it neatly up to date. With its dovetail joinery, rough sawn base and soft close drawer, it is inspired by the refectory table, which is firmly rooted in Medieval times. Yet this is a modern take on the iconic farmhouse style – practical and stylish, it will see you through generations to come.
Here at Forest to Home, our carefully-applied finishes add character and durability too. We are not huge fans of heavy varnishes, which smother the timber and prevent it from ageing gracefully. Instead, we prefer to apply oils, which add depth and lustre, while protecting the natural beauty of the oak, walnut or ash.
Ultimately, this is timeless, solid timber furniture that exudes character and fits flawlessly into any style of interior. Whether it’s a live edge table adding a rustic accent to a sleek London townhouse, or a solid timber bed slotting seamlessly into a Wiltshire barn conversion, our pieces look perfectly at home.
Of course, our furniture doesn’t just connect you to our incredible heritage of craftmanship – it connects you our forests too. This is furniture that makes you feel good, furniture with nature and history at its heart. This is furniture with soul.
