One size rarely fits all. The very nature of how we work at Forest to Home means made-to-measure proportions are part and parcel of how we craft furniture. But when we say, ‘bespoke’ we really do mean tailor-made, where we make tables, kitchen islands, storage and wherever your imagination takes you. The scale is up for grabs, the design language and the timber too, and the end destination can be anywhere from home to hotel to a retail space.
The proof’s in the pudding though, so read on for a case (study) in point…
One of the hottest hotel chains out there, The Hoxton (part of the bigger Ennismore group founded by the duo behind new member’s club, Estelle Manor) is where you’ll find hipsters congregating and crashing at from all over the world. A hotel first and foremost but with bar and restaurant areas serving the general public be it in London, New York or any of its other global outposts, its comfy armchairs and fireside sofas made it a go-to location for freelancers and remote workers, naturally. To free up lobby space and to offer a better, richer co-working space community, it opened its Working From sub-brand – an upgrade on a WeWork that looked, felt, smelt and sounded like The Hoxton, but was designed to feel like the office space of your dreams. And that meant desks…
That’s where we came in. Commissioned to make all of the desks, credenzas and coffee tables for its debut offie space in Southwark, London, we filled its four-storey base with grown-in-Britain certified ash, ensuring over 700 people had a seat at the table. Being both a design- and planet-conscious brand, The Hoxton were proud to support British ash which is currently under threat from Ash Dieback – a disease that is likely to wipe out up to 95% of our species in the UK.
Requiring such a colossal amount of shared desk space, we designed design that range from 2.5-7metres in length, each with dovetail drawers and CNC-engraved wireless charge points. Not only were the dimensions and details bespoke, but the design language too so that the desks reflected The Hoxton’s Art Deco appeal. Over 1000 hand-turned ash legs later and over 4000 hours of crafting in our Wiltshire workshop, made this a project with an extremely low carbon footprint and an extremely high level of devotion to design.
