As we dive into Autumn, kitchens and tables are taking centre stage at Forest to Home. Co-Founder and Creative Director Sam Baker explains…
The last few months have meant so many different things to us all. A slower pace of life, more family time and a renewed appreciation of the great outdoors are just some of the positives to have emerged from this crazy, unimaginable scenario. And anxieties aside, many of us have realised that there is a lot to be grateful for. At Forest to Home, we’re certainly more thankful than ever for our talented team and our location, in the heart of Wiltshire’s rolling hills.
And it seems the pandemic has also given millions of us an appetite for home improvements too. Throughout lockdown, our homes have become a sanctuary and place of refuge like never before. And as we seek comfort in our own spaces, there’s been surge in our desire to redecorate, renovate and refurbish.
For us at Forest to Home, that’s led to some sensational bespoke projects and given us amazing opportunities to explore innovative new designs. Take the kitchen for example – the heart of every home. One of our most exciting commissions this month is a custom-made kitchen, which brings together a series of striking timbers, textures and tones.
The first step was sourcing some stunning slabs of walnut, which have been specified for the worktops. We handpicked a series of samples from one of our local sawmills, then invited our client down to visit our Wiltshire workshop, where he chose his perfect pieces. With its rich, dark colour and swirling, wild grain pattern, we’ll now transform that timber into worktops that look inviting and atmospheric.
And the kitchen cupboards and drawers make a statement too. Hand crafted from British ash, we are then finishing them in a series of harmonious tints, ranging from a white finish, to a chocolatey brown and darker ebony. With the grain still clearly visible, it’s a trio of shades that blend together seamlessly.
Of course, at the centre of every kitchen is a table and over the last few weeks, we’ve been inspired to add a new design to our collection. With its chunkier legs and single drawer at one end, it has a traditional refectory feel – think family suppers and feasting with friends. But it’s elegant too. From the dovetail joints to the contrasting mix of sawn and lightly-textured sanded timber, it invites you to reach out and touch it.
So, if you’re thinking of renovating your kitchen, investing in solid timber furniture or you just want to explore the possibilities, why not give us a call? We hope we’ve brought you a little food for thought….
