From earthy tones to natural fabrics, here’s how to create a cosy yet elegant interior…
It’s been an unprecedented year, but the events of 2020 have sharpened our appreciation of the natural world like never before. Our fields, forests and parks have provided a refuge from the chaos, while our homes have become our sanctuary. It’s perhaps not surprising that, when it comes to interior design trends, the modern rustic look is set to be big for 2021. Here’s how to embrace it…
When it comes to your colour palette, the emphasis is on celebrating nature’s beauty. Think earthy tones, such as warm stone, taupe, creams and muted grey-greens. Likewise, warm off-whites create a fabulously neutral canvas, which allows stone fireplaces or timber furniture to stand out.
Wooden beams, exposed brickwork and stone walls all lend a space a cosy, organic character. Don’t be afraid to let them take centre stage.
With rustic design, handcrafted solid timber furniture is the natural choice. Seek out unique, characterful pieces, such as Forest to Home’s Graft shelving unit. With its beguiling grain pattern and gently undulating edges, it brings nature’s wild beauty inside.
Add a rustic ambience underfoot, with wooden floorboards, terracotta tiles or aged flagstone flooring. For extra warmth and cosiness, lay mismatched or antique rugs on top.
Fundamentally, rustic design involves using fabrics in their most natural state. Create a homely, welcoming space using soft woollen rugs, cosy throws, a smattering of linen cushions and even a vintage leather sofa.
This versatile design style looks great in every room, from the kitchen to the bedroom. From rich, dark walnut worktops to rustic, solid timber headboards, it’s all about boldly embracing the spirit of the great outdoors.
Sleek, glossy surfaces and crisp lines shout polished perfection. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you’re embracing the rustic look you want to see and feel your furniture’s connection to the natural world. Our tactile, live-edge furniture celebrates every gnarly knot, burr and split – check out our Edges Dining Table, with its wildly raw and rugged top.
