One size rarely fits all. The very nature of how we work at Forest to Home means made-to-measure proportions are part and parcel of how we craft furniture. But when we say, ‘bespoke’ we really do mean tailor-made, where we make tables, kitchen islands, storage and wherever your imagination takes you. The scale is up for grabs, the design language and the timber too, and the end destination can be anywhere from home to hotel to a retail space.
Take a derelict country barn in the trendy spot that is The Cotswolds, bring in London interior designers Dalrymple Studio, take a client brief that is to transform it into a party pad, and the result is as you might imagine, a feast for the eyes.
At the heart of the brief was to establish a fun entertaining space for the whole family. One that would evolve with the children as time went by so that it served as a place to eat, to gather, to do homework, to host supper parties and party-parties. That wish list must-have grew arms and legs as Dalrymple Studio created a downstairs layout that kept giving and giving with guest quarters complete with overflow bedrooms and their own kitchen for sleepovers friends and family would never forget.
Any great entertaining space has at its core a table fit for king and queen, which is exactly what Dalrymple Studio tasked us with for their Cotswold barn extravaganza. The theme was California meets the mountains in the Cotswolds, translating as cosy, spacious, natural materials but with a sense of play and resilience. Words that we can certain sing along to at Forest to Home as we set about designing a dining table that would tick every word on the brief, weathering wisely over time and growing old with the tastemaker family inside.
A characterful pippy oak tree sourced locally from a sustainably managed woodland, we took it into our workshop and invited Dalrymple Studio in to hand-select the timber that’d want to feature on the tabletop. Not every designer makes the in-person trip but in doing so, they were able to specify the exact finish and degree of grain and tone variation they wanted on their signature piece. In the end, we used two slices of timber from the same tree to keep the character consistent across their entire 16-seater masterpiece.
